Alaska 2009 is a go!

Lynda and I have been talking about this trip for about 8-9 months now, and we finally got around to making the reservations.

The trip will take us from Atlanta to Anchorage on July 25, where we will spend the night.

On the 26th, we head down to Seward on the coast, meet up with the guide, and head out to the Kenai Fjords Nation Park area on a big boat with our kayaks and gear for the week. From there, we kayak along the coast, gawking at wildlife and whatever other wonderful things the Alaskan wilderness has to throw at us.

On August 1, we arrive back in Seward and take a bus up to Denali. We stay there (in rental cabins, I think) until August 4. We won't be doing any backpacking, but we will be doing a lot of day hikes and other things.

Then, on August 4 we take a train back to Anchorage and spend the night. Our flight departs late on August 5, so we have most of the day to do cheesy sightseeing and other typical touristy stuff.

The tour is organized by Backcountry Safaris:

I'm impressed with their organization, as well as the environment-friendly approach.

While in Anchorage, we will be staying here:

As of right now, we have our plane tickets booked, the B&B in Anchorage booked, as well as the main tour. All we need next is the airport shuttle.

Alaska 2009

A 7-day kayaking trip in the Kenai Fjords area south-west of Seward, then 4 days in Denali for hiking.
